BPM Video: Mary Scary on Shit Girls say to Die Antwoord

Mary Scary is a self-proclaimed lesbian Diva Rockstar who found her calling on the dirty streets of New York and now lives it up in Cape Town where she is furthering her journey to love, life and super Rockstardom. In this video, while getting ready for a night on the town, she lays down a few lines that girls throw at now global Afrikaans rap sensation Die Antwoord. So ridiculously funny.
Quote: “Are you really the aliens from District 9?”
BPM Video: Dunkin’ donuts – When YoLanDi met Dave

People are always quick to draw the hype. Die Antwoord‘s surprise appearance on one of America’s most popular talkshows – The Late Show with David Letterman – this past Monday evening, was enough for journos to begin punting the whole ‘SA is INVADING the US with some of our own – AyoOO-BAH!’ But that’s just journo spam. That said, it certainly does make everyone sit up and anticipate the wacky ones’ new album.
‘$O$’ was a magnificent, multi-layered conceit. A brilliant illusion. Its brash, pumping surface was just loud enough to disguise the intricate musical detail (sonic puns and quips and pirouettes) and the eloquent parodying of around a dozen Seffrican tropes – admittedly mostly from within white pools of experience. Like that favouritest-ever-in-the-world film of theirs, ‘District 9′, the album is equally hilarious and disturbing, operating on different planes of genre. But back to that Madonna-show stealing appearance..
Ah, the moment when lumbering Dave shakes teeny YoLanDi’s hand! The mixture of shyness and triumph shared in a glimpse between her and Ninja afterwards! Historic stuff. A tiny moon-landing. Priceless. And while opening track, and the one performed on the Letterman show, ‘I fink you freeky (and I like you a lot)’ is not exactly a homerun – cutesy and with a killer video, it nevertheless sound like an ‘$O$’ outtake or deletion – its sheen does suggest that new release ‘Ten$ion’ will be bathed in studio luxury. Sonically streamlined for massive consumption. But what this reviewer can’t wait for is to see what tricks and treasures lurk behind the sheens.
Check out the video of their appearance here and our review of ‘Ten$ion’ in the upcoming edition of Bpm Mag.

BPM Video: Kevin Saunderson’s ‘Future’
Last modified on 2011-12-20 10:33:54 GMT. 1 comment. Top.
The track ‘Future‘ by Techno legend Kevin Saunderson and singer/songwriters Paris Grey and Ann Saunderson, Inner City’s ‘Future’, has been written and produced in collaboration with another Detroit legend, namely Kenny Larkin, with additional production duties provided by the very talented producer/remixer Orlando Voorn. Devastatingly catchy and reminiscent of that old school nineties edge. Highly emotional, it exhibits all the soulful flavours and qualities you would expect from these celebrated producers and singers.
